Gethin showed his bravery by joining Loose Women on ITV1 to talk about his jetting off to Afghanistan for a good cause.

He told Andrea McLean, Lisa Maxwell, Carol McGiffin and Linda Robson that the troops' morale was boosted by watching Loose Women.

BBC Remembrance Week

In the run up to Remembrance Sunday, Gethin hosts a daily series of programmes filmed in Afghanistan. He honours those that have fought there as well as reflecting on all the other servicemen and women who have taken part in past conflicts around the world. The programmes are on BBC1, starting Monday 7th November at 9:15 a.m.

An interesting article on his trip can be found here Gethin Jones on his Deadly Trip to Afghanistan

National Teaching Awards

Gethin would have felt quite a home at the Pearson Teaching Awards 2011. Not only did Lenny Henry and Minnie Driver show off their Welsh accents, but also two Welsh schools, Ysgol Dyffryn Taf and Lewis School Pengam, picked up awards. See the video section on the Home Page to catch a glimpse of the Awards' Ceremony.

Tom Shanklin's Testimonial Year

Tom Shanklin is a Welsh Rugby legend who has scored 20 tries for Wales - the same as two other legends Gareth Edwards and Gerald Davies. Tom helped Gethin in the Real Radio Wales World Cup Rugby programme and Gethin is reciprocating by supporting 'Shanks' in his Testimonial Year.

Gethin will host a 'Ladies Night' on Tuesday November 29th at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Gethin has also agreed to complete a cycle ride from Cardiff to Paris ahead of the Racing Metro v Cardiff Blues Heineken Cup match on Friday 11th of November. It is hoped that the French cows are friendly.

The Adventurer's Guide to Britain

Gethin and naturalist Charlotte Uhlenbroek stray off the beaten track to uncover the mysteries and secret wonders of the British Isles in a six week series which airs on ITV1 in November. 'The Adventurer's Guide To Britain' reveals the spectacular, hidden side of Britain as the two intrepid adventurers seek out the hidden gems in inaccessible and unexplored places.

Remembrance

Gethin was honoured to be asked to launch The Royal British Legion's 2011 Poppy Appeal. He said: "I've experienced first-hand what life is like for our brave Service men and women on operations and how much the British public's support means to them. They risk so much for us every single day. I ask everyone to throw their support behind the Appeal and to wear their poppy with pride." At the launch, The Soldiers performed the official Poppy Appeal song for 2011, I've Gotta Get a Message to You, recorded with pop legend Robin Gibb. A video of the launch can be found on the Home Page of this website.

Gethin also met up with the Prime Minister, David Cameron, as part of his ambassadorial role for the British Legion.

We are still Holding out for a Hero

We hear from the Production company that the show will be aired from mid-September on a Sunday evening. Gethin says it starts on his mum's 70th birthday (I am sure Mrs. Jones is delighted that news has gone nationwide). See Home Page Video section.

In other news, Gethin will be at the Hull 'Skyride' this weekend, encouraging the people of Hull to get on their bikes.

He will also be hosting a Remembrance programme for the BBC:

'Remembrance Week
In the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday 2011, BBC One Daytime celebrates stories of courage, emotion and sacrifice made by thousands of people from all walks of life and from all over the UK.

Remembrance Week, presented by Gethin Jones, explores the reality of modern day conflicts as well as those from the past through the personal stories of people whose lives have been touched by war. The series will focus on modern day conflicts including the Falklands, Balkans, the Gulf Wars and Afghanistan.

Gethin Jones says: "It's a real privilege to be asked to spend time with our hero's home and abroad as we approach remembrance week. It's a time to honour and reflect on the heroic work our armed forces – past and present – carry out."

War veterans, active service men, and posthumous heroes, as well as stories from those not directly involved such as nurses, teachers, civilians, former entertainers of the troops and families form the heart of this series.
