EXCLUSIVE!

Gethin very kindly agreed to answer some questions from Geth's Girls
........our very own SparklingChampagne got to ask those questions

Hello Geth, come in, grab a comfy chair - there’s a nice cup of tea and plate of welshcakes, so help yourself!

Lovely to see you again, my name’s Liz, but the girls call me Sparkling and I’m sort of responsible for starting Geth’s girls - I was at the Ball, but as I never managed to get a word in edgeways, I’ve been let loose on this interview malarkey instead..

So, first off, thank you for taking the time to do this for the website, we know you’re a busy man, and about to be even busier by the sounds of it. Congratulations (if that’s the right way of putting it) on your announcement - we’re all eagerly anticipating what your next projects are going to be - you bad boy for not sharing that little gem with us at the ball!!
Us girls have put our heads together, and we hope we’ve come up with some questions you’ll enjoy so have a nibble and a slurp and see what you think…

Liz: Now you’re 30, you’re entitled to become nostalgic about your youth, so which TV programme transports you back to your childhood of jumpers for goalposts and mum calling you in for tea?
Geth: It was usually Dad that called me in for tea…actually he would whistle which would travel what seemed to be for miles…I knew then that the jam sandwiches were ready!! The programmes I watched were ‘Sgorio’ (welsh footie programme still going today) and Neighbours and Home and Away in between violin and piano lessons!

Liz: You’ve been able to travel the world with Blue Peter, but is there anywhere that you haven’t been that you really want to visit? And where would you most like to return to without the camera crew following you?
Geth: I really wanted to visit the great wall in China and witness the Northern Lights, which I actually got to do in the last month on the show. Never been to Argentina, but I think that’d be a great programme… Probably South Africa, I’d love to get a camper van and drive all away across!

Liz: We know you like your food, but having seen you on Ready Steady Cook we’re not sure about your culinary skills! If you wanted to impress someone with dinner, what would you cook? bearing in mind that setting the fire alarm off is never a good way to go…
Alternatively, when you’ve been away for weeks filming, and you’re coming home to a meal cooked by family or friends, what are you secretly hoping that meal will be?
Geth: I’m not the best cook you’re right (even though I was robbed on RSC!!!), but I do love eating it! Would probably suggest eating out if I was meeting someone!! When I get back from long away trips I’m always gaggin' for beans on toast and a cup of tea! Other than that, a roast at home with loads and loads of veg.

Liz: Do you still play the violin and the piano for your own enjoyment?
Geth: The piano lid is always open at home, so I never fail to have a little tinkle of the ivories! Not so much with the violin, just more of a hassle to get it out…resin the bow etc. But I do still play…it’d be a waste of 15 years of learning if I didn’t!

Liz: You wake up one morning to discover that you have a fairy godmother who will grant you 1 wish. Your choice is go back in time and win Strictly, or play 1 season as a professional rugby player - which do you choose?
Geth: Flippin' great question! Probably rugby, I couldn’t of done any more with Strictly, gave it my best shot and surprised myself with how far we got!! I’ll never know with rugby….! But having said that, I couldn’t be more grateful for whats happened to me since leaving Uni and I count myself very fortunate for that.

Liz: Your website has had hits from as far a field as California and Australia, but it recently had a visit from someone in China - any idea who that might have been?????
Geth: Reaally?!! Well, as I said, I’ve recently returned from China so who knows. It wasn’t a Giant Panda was it?!!

Liz: You find yourself at an event where you are lined up to perform a dance with Camilla when suddenly she is abducted by aliens. All the other Strictly professionals are there, so which one do you grab to dance with?
Geth: I would put my super hero costume on (I have one with a Blue Peter logo on the back), save Camilla, bring her back to earth in time for the ball!

Liz: This one is from the spectacle wearers amongst us - have you ever considered eye laser surgery?
Geth: Yes actually, really considered it. Still considering it. Pretty expensive for me cos I’m so myopic. Mind you, I’ve been in the most extreme weather conditions, high in the air, deep in the ocean, pressure chambers and I’ve always managed. My opticians Stewart Greenberg are class!

Liz: Are there any famous people that you would be star-struck to meet?
Geth: I love meeting ‘stars’ whether they’re in the public eye or not…but I don’t think I’ve ever been star struck…apart from when I met Scott Gibbs maybe!

Liz: Its payday, and there’s money burning a hole in your wallet - what do you go and buy even though you probably shouldn’t?
Geth: Probably a present for Alby!

Liz: Is there anything the producers could ask that you would refuse to do on Blue Peter?
Geth: No way

Liz: Do you dream in Welsh or English?
Geth: Bit of both I think!

Liz: Why do you call Claudia Winkleman ‘Snuggles’?
Geth: Hahaha! She started calling me it at the start of the series, and it kinda stuck from there! I love Claudia, I miss not seeing her on the sofa, loved my trips to It takes 2!

Quick fire round…

Marmite or peanut butter?   Neither!
Tess or Claudia?   Oh C’mon. Having the choice of the 2 would be every man's dream!
Salsa or Waltz?   You’re tough, Waltz
Cardiff or London?   Cardiff
Parkinson or Wogan?  Parky
Jammy Dodgers or Jaffa Cakes?  Jaffas
Girls Aloud or Gethin’s Girls?   The easiest question of the lot, GG’s all the way!

There now, hopefully that wasn’t too painful! We’re looking forward to hearing your answers, and who knows, maybe seeing you again sometime.
In the meantime it’s a big thank you from me, Sparkling, and all the rest of Geth’s Girls x
Thanks Sparkling, great questions and a good laugh answering them.  Love the website and sorry I couldn’t tell you about BP sooner. Will be in touch with what's happening next and thank you for your continued support! Gx
